You may have seen my post about the mystery horror-type game, ABC. I would love to have some professional help with this project. Please and thanks, CamleeW.
P.S. If you download and play it, it’s very basic. All I need for now is for the game to detect when the “A” goes into place.

was8bit 2018-12-29 07:17

This works, but it is not proper as you have not defined the sprite.. in future upgrades this code may not work...

Also, it requires pixel precision which is hard for the player to do...

was8bit 2018-12-29 07:18

This is better, as it moves actual text by cell position, and is easier for player to do...

was8bit 2018-12-29 07:19

Just subsitute the PLAY command with a GOTO command to jump to the code when the match is made :)

Timo 2018-12-29 11:28

It's not a problem to use a sprite without defining it. By default you'll always have the standard font in memory, so you can use their characters as sprites, too.

was8bit 2018-12-29 15:50

Ah, yes I see.. so no issue...

But, it does take a clever person to use those text characters without first filling up page 4 with text characters as otherwise you have to remember which character # was which alphabet text...

CamleeW 2018-12-29 17:25

Thank you so much. I might need more help later, so I’ll keep y’all notified.

CamleeW 2018-12-29 17:47

Ok, I know this is soon, but I need some sort of select menu with five buttons. Thanks, CamleeW.

CamleeW 2018-12-29 17:47 (Edited)

The menu needs to go under where it says,
“Welcome to the games”.

CamleeW 2018-12-29 17:50 (Edited)

Also, I’ll credit you both for helping with this project! One of the buttons on the home screen will take you to the credits.

Timo 2018-12-29 18:08

The easiest menu can be made using PRINT and INPUT:
PRINT "1. START"
PRINT "2. OPTIONS"
PRINT "3. CREDITS"
DO
INPUT ">";A
IF A=1 THEN GOTO START
IF A=2 THEN GOTO OPTIONS
IF A=3 THEN GOTO CREDITS
LOOP

START:
...

CamleeW 2018-12-29 18:11

Thank you, so do I just add more in that same format to make more buttons?

Timo 2018-12-29 18:24

Yes. But they aren't buttons, it works with the keyboard.

CamleeW 2018-12-29 18:27

Ok thanks, here’s the current product. I’ll add the actual mini games later. Basically I want there to be a hidden secret in each one, and when they’re all unlocked, a new level opens up.

CamleeW 2018-12-29 18:54

Hey Timo, I want one of the mini games to be like LowRes Adventure but with the added secret. Can I do that if I credit you, please?

CamleeW 2018-12-29 19:10

Never mind, I’ve had a better idea.

CamleeW 2018-12-29 19:28 (Edited)

Hey, I made a sprite that is one cube up and two across on the character design grid. How do I make them both one sprite and use it?

CamleeW 2018-12-29 19:53

Ok, game one is completed. The second one will be a racing game where you can glitch out of the map.

CamleeW 2018-12-29 20:56

Aye, about that racing game, how do I add barriers so the track is a circle.

was8bit 2018-12-30 05:21 (Edited)

You have a LOT of energy... i like that !! :)

First things first... check out this Sprite Demo I made :)

https://lowresnx.inutilis.com/topic.php?id=226

And practice this for yourself until you understand what's going on ...

CamleeW 2018-12-30 06:03 (Edited)

Thanks! You guys have been a lot of help.

was8bit 2018-12-30 06:22

You may also "experiment" with anything I've posted... for example if you have made some changes you like, you can repost it as "game by was8bit, remixed by CamleeW" that way you can get credit for the edits you've made, and the original author gets credit for the original program..

I myself, and I know TIMO, don't mind if you do it that way with our programs... it's generally polite to ask others if they are OK with it too... usually they are OK with this approach, but it's polite to ask to make sure..

Remixing existing programs is a fun way to learn... if you don't repost them you can experiment with anyone's program... just follow my suggestion above before actually reposting any remixes of others works (if it's ok with them) :)

CamleeW 2018-12-30 18:34

Hey, I meant a literal barrier that the players cannot step foot on, they just run into it, and it needs to be in the middle of the map. Sorry for the confusion, CamleeW

CamleeW 2018-12-30 18:36 (Edited)

I’m just now reading your previous reply. Thanks.

CamleeW 2018-12-30 18:41 (Edited)

So, I’m doing this all on my phone, but I recently got a new laptop for my birthday. Where do I go to download LowRes NX?
P.S. It’s Windows.

Timo 2018-12-30 21:10

The Windows and Mac versions are here:
https://github.com/timoinutilis/lowres-nx/releases
Make sure to read the "readme" file.

CamleeW 2018-12-30 21:22

Ok thanks

CamleeW 2018-12-30 22:27

Do i have to make a GitHub account to download it?

CamleeW 2018-12-30 22:30

Also, is it 100% safe, because I just got a brand new computer and I don't want any viruses.

CamleeW 2018-12-30 22:45

I’m attaching the current version so I can copy paste it to my computer, so just ignore it

CamleeW 2018-12-30 22:55

Okay, I got it on my computer. Where do I go to code things. I can only open games and play them.

was8bit 2018-12-31 04:34

The windows version doesn't have a built in editor...

I recommend this editor..

https://notepad-plus-plus.org

was8bit 2018-12-31 04:36

Also, be sure to read the README file included with the lowres package, it helps you understand how to get into the character editor as well as the background editor, and other things you'll need to know...

CamleeW 2018-12-31 19:18

K thanks.

CamleeW 2018-12-31 19:30

Also, I want sound effects in ABC 2 and future updates of ABC. Do you guys know of any good sound editing tutorials?

Timo 2018-12-31 22:50 (Edited)

I just finished programming sound for LowRes NX, so probably there aren’t any tutorials yet, but for simple things it’s not so complicated.

was8bit 2019-01-01 04:51

Start with the PLAY command, which is quick and easy :)

CamleeW 2019-01-02 01:41

Ok thanks. I’ll play around with it

CamleeW 2019-01-02 02:28

How do I make a variable a randomize between three options? I need a variable to pick between one two and three.

was8bit 2019-01-02 04:23

VAR=INT(RND*3)

The results are from 0-2
RND returns a number from 0-0.99999
So RND*3 returns a number from 0-2.99999
INT cuts off the decimial part of the number, so 0-2 :)

To make it 1-3 simply add 1

VAR=INT(RND*3)+1

VAR=INT(RND*3)-1 yields -1,0,1

To get JUST -1 or 1 with out the 0...

VAR=(INT(RND*2)*2)-1

So, by using clever math you can create a variety of random numbers :)

CamleeW 2019-01-02 04:41

I worked it out now. Thanks though

was8bit 2019-01-02 07:12
