@was8bit, in the absence (to my current knowledge at time of writing) of anyone else putting their hand up, I'd like to give it a go! However, I am currently not ready to actually code it yet! I need more time to learn! I would therefore need to present my solution in text for the time being. If that's okay? 🤔 On the actual 'Challenge' page, I would describe - as briefly as possible - one possible solution. Just to see if my thinking is right? I love this idea by the way! 😊

Anything "bowling" related is fine ;) i want to encourage everyone to not be afraid to contribute something, anything :)

@was8bit, anyway - I'll post my bowling game ideas in text on the actual 'Challenge' page, and you can see what you think of them! I'm not able to code these things myself just yet, but I'm working on it - you can be assured of that. 😊

... and it is fine to post your pre- version on the challenge page :) hopefully we can work it until you feel confident enough to post it for real... it would reallu encourage others who are "in the same boat" as you to give it a try too ;)

@was8bit, hello again! I have hit a major stumbling block! And I DO mean MAJOR!! Earlier on this morning (MY time - because I live in Australia 🇦🇺 🐨) I attempted to mix together your graphics for the bowling Challenge, and Omurex's recent 'Simple Ball' demo example. It worked! With only a small amount of corruption of your character set! (Mainly in the 'pins' area). But then I went to post it to the community! I was informed that I require iOS 11 or higher to post anything to the community. I tried posting my code 3 more times, and the same message told me I require iOS 11+. The trouble is - I've still got iOS 10.3.2 on my iPad. I can't upgrade my iOS firmware because I have way too many Apps - over 1100 on the same iPad - which require my iOS version NOT TO CHANGE. If I WAS to upgrade the iOS version to (I think it's at iOS 13.3 currently) I would lose backward compatibility with more than 2/3 of my Music creation Apps! (DAW's, Synthesizers, Drum Machines, Plug-ins etc. - would ALL have to be sacrificed! Not to mention a lot of my favourite game titles! I'm sorry but I can't do that. The upshot is that although I am able to use NX to program stuff, I cannot post it. So I'm very sorry to say I am unable to take part in the Challenge.
I am still able to make comments, and give ideas, and help out where I can, but because iOS 11+ is required in order to post stuff, I am stuck! 🙁🙁😔😔 So sorry was8bit! I didn't want to leave this message on the Challenge page because I'd kind of 'signed up' to do the Challenge, and I thought it might discourage others, so I left this message here! Who knew you need iOS 11+ in order to post?? 🤔😔😫😖😖 D'oh!

@roger.. you CAN get your game up and posted, it just can't be done the easy way... here is what you will need to do (this works for my 10.3.3 IOS ipad mini...)
1) go to your Settings, AppleID, iCloud, and turn on icloud for LowresNX
2) go online to this community website
(You can not this the easy way from inside your game, sorry)
3) tap on your profile image on the top right
4) select "Upload Program"
5) fill out the upload page...
... select a category
... enter text for TITLE
... enter text for TEXT (description)
It is VERY important to do all these steps before you go to step #6... if you do #6 and then go back to do any part of step #5 then your upload will fail!)
6) on the bottom of this page,
... tap the CHOOSE FILE button under SOURCE CODE
... select ICLOUD
... select LOWRESNX
... type the game name in the search box
... you will see 2 entries for your game..l be SURE you select the one ending in .NX
... select CHOOSE FILE button under SCREENSHOT
... select ICLOUD
... select LOWRESNX
... type the game name in the search box
... you will see 2 entries for your game, be SURE you select the one ending in .PNG
... verify you have the correct files in the correct order... if not you CAN reload the correct files at this time..
... when OK, press the SUBMIT button at the very bottom...
... and PRESTO, your game is posted...

@was8bit, that all sounds a little bit risky to me at the moment!!! 🤔 As it is I'm using an outdated browser to download stuff! When I go to the community via NX, it chooses to open the outdated version of Safari browser. I use a more recent version of Google to do stuff like this (comments), because Safari allows me to download programs, and Google (which I'm on now) allows me to make comments & leave text. Neither one of them will do BOTH! But if I follow your instructions above, I am afraid that it might upset my browser settings (on one OR either of the browsers), and I might end up not being able to even download code, or leave comments, ask questions etc. Is it possible to do what you're suggesting without upsetting either of my browsers? 🤔 Or do you think, as I do, that it might be best not to try to tinker with what ain't broken? At least I currently have SOME connectivity! I'd rather not lose that connectivity on a gamble!

@was8bit, I just had to exit from Google, go into NX > Community via Safari, download gamer_12321's code, and then run it as usual to take a look, THEN exit from NX, go into Google to come back here & comment. See what I mean? 🤔 It's annoying, but at least it works! 🤷♂️🤷♂️

@was8bit, I have ALSO found that SOME Apps which WILL work on iOS 10.3.3, will NOT WORK on my iPad with iOS 10.3.2 (!) I have downloaded Apps that claimed to be iOS 10 compatible, and they haven't worked on MY iPad!! I think it might be something to do with the introduction of the 'files' App into iOS 11.

@was8bit, apparently there were subtle differences between iOS 10.3.2 & iOS 10.3.3 as well.

I don't think that "trying" steps will "break" anything... worst case it might get stuck and need a hard shut down and reboot.. either it will work, or it won't...

@was8bit, no was8bit you can't just upgrade to a prior version of iOS firmware like that. When you go to update the iOS, Apple have made sure you can ONLY update to the very LATEST VERSION! Which is now around iOS 13.3 or something like that! If things went badly for me, it would be the end of my iPad. I don't think that I'm willing to try it even. Sorry. My apologies for wasting your time here. But I WILL continue to learn by watching everything, and asking the occasional question! You haven't seen the last of me yet! Lol 😂 There IS a chance that I COULD buy a new iPad! Then these problems would be solved! But it might be a while yet.

@ roger... then can you copy paste your code HERE .... if you are using the exact same characters i posted, you would only need to post your main code and i could add the character data from my copy... that would keep the size of the copy paste down...

Here's a WIP of my attempt at this. Rolling the ball and knocking over pins is all there, just need to finish the rest of the game logic and then add audio and a title screen. Still not entirely sold on the collision response so I'd love to hear suggestions on that.

@was8bit, YES!! Was8bit I CAN see your posts! Oh thank goodness! I thought I'd done something wrong with posting that code on here! I had to remove it just in case it was blocking my messages here. It really wasn't any good after all anyway - it didn't work like I initially thought it had. Earlier on you asked if all I wanted was a 'bounce code', but that wasn't my intention at all. I was only interested in the MANUAL MODE of that code by Omurex, because it allowed for control of the ball. The rest of that code was extraneous to my purposes. Just thought I'd explain that! Lol 😂 I had intended only to use the ball control mode in order to make the ball go from left of screen, to the right, and then disappear once it had hit the pins! Not so it would bounce around like a nutter! 🤣😂😄😃👍

@Arkia, Oh. My. God! Your game is TRULY FANTASTIC!!! I've just been playing it, and the game mechanics are pretty much perfect! All credit to you, you've really pulled it off with style!! WOW!!! What a tremendous entry into this challenge! 😃👍

Ball movement for you is as simple as
X=X+SPEED
Placed inside a Do Loop with WAIT VBL
and you can adjust my existing code (Roger Bowling) to where when it reaches an edge do something else besides bounce ;)

I have decided to make mine a retro LCD version of bowling... using cell blocks as the stationary LCD panels... i have a few tricks up my sleeves though ;)

I've doubled my Ycells giving me about 20 possible "lanes" of travel for the ball, which should allow for more possible combinations of travel based on where one starts(20 starting places) and i also have 5 possible angles of direction planned.. so that makes it 100 possible kinds of travel for the ball ;)
I think i will allow "jumping" out of the gutter under certain conditions for trick shots... ;)

Yeah it’s just that I have so many ideas I want to make and my original plan for this was to recreate an old game I’d rather make new ones maybe one day I’ll work on it.
