Yehaw! There's GOLD in them thar hills!!
Starting out as a pan-handler, work your way up to a rich Rail-Baron!
HOW TO PLAY
- Connect your Red Train Station to mountains with gold with railroad tracks.
- TAP tracks to flip them around.
- TAP the Red Station to send your train out to get the gold!
- When you are ready to look for more gold, tap the BIG BELL to go to new land.
IF YOU CRASH YOUR TRAIN, it is all over... you only have one train!
At game end, your high score is shown in the game logo box... :)
GAMELEGEND 2020-04-29 06:18 (Edited)
Wait what is the point the hazards if you can just build over them or is there more to come
was8bit 2020-04-29 07:57
It COSTS extra $$$ to build over them ;)
Notice the top line, the right most is your money (can go negative)
Then left of you will see +00-00=00.. for this turn, this is +$gold found-$spent=experience points
was8bit 2020-04-29 08:01
See the 00/00.... this is earned ex.p/needed ex.p... this, determines when you "level up" to the next level (you start as a gold panner or pan handler)
At the end of each turn then, any experience points are added to the left, and once you meet or exceed the needed amount you upgrade to the next level, which will offer more gold but will be harder...
was8bit 2020-04-29 08:05
Also, you can not build track on: train shed, mountains, lakes, existing track
Also note that you must line up the track at the points shown on the shed and mountain
Being able to turn track will be needed when you have several mountains, since you can not build different track over top existing track, so careful planning is needed to get all the gold...
was8bit 2020-04-29 08:12
As each gold dot = 10 gold, on the picture for v0.51 player will, at turn end, lose $3 and won't earn any experience points.... BUT they will get to play another turn... had they built differently, they could have spent only $9 (there was a water hazard they built thru) and could have ended their turn +$1 profit and 1 exp. point closer to leveling up...
was8bit 2020-04-29 08:14
Little rivers -$1
Rough terrain -$2
This is addition to the cost of the tracks....
Straight track -$1
Circed track -$2
was8bit 2020-04-29 08:15
So, at any time, laying down a track can cost $1 to $4 each track
was8bit 2020-04-29 08:46
... ok, since redesigning the graphics, this inspired changes in the game... now there are 3 hazzards..
Although these wont take effect until the next update...
was8bit 2020-04-29 09:09 (Edited)
... a sample of the train graphics at the bottom left corner of v0.54....
... now, the hard part.... getting the train to follow the tracks...
... i think i need to make my train shed BIGGER!
nousername010 2020-04-29 10:55
I like tycoon games, and seeing your replies, I'd love to see how this turns out.
was8bit 2020-04-29 11:05
I am currently contemplating the train code.... after that point the game will get finished very quickly :)
was8bit 2020-04-29 16:29
You can now remove unwanted rail.. cost $3
was8bit 2020-04-29 16:30
Also tweaked sound effects....
was8bit 2020-04-29 16:31
Let me know if tool select is intuitive (easy to figure out) or will require instructions...
GAMELEGEND 2020-04-29 16:32
It is easy to use and understand
was8bit 2020-04-29 16:37 (Edited)
Image for v0.61 shows spent $15 but can make $20..
In finished game...
1) tap red T to start train and collect $10 from left mountain
2) tap the connecting angle track to direct train right
3) tap red T to start train again and collect $10 from right mountain
was8bit 2020-04-29 16:39 (Edited)
@gamelegend... THANKS SO MUCH for the feedback.... i wrangled different ideas until i settled for the current controls... :)
was8bit 2020-04-30 05:59
You can crash the train now ;)
GAMELEGEND 2020-04-30 06:07
I crashed the good ol train when i first used it with out even tryin XD
was8bit 2020-04-30 07:19
Actually all it can do right now is crash ;)
... i am working out the code that keeps it "on track" ...
was8bit 2020-05-01 04:55
Then TAP the red building to launch the train ... it should follow the track :)
GAMELEGEND 2020-05-01 05:44 (Edited)
Now this is luck
was8bit 2020-05-01 05:54
Yep, maps are randomly generated :)
... i am SO CLOSE to being done... i need to get it to level up and higher levels will have harder maps...
was8bit 2020-05-01 05:56
0.72 will let you play multiple maps :)
.. just select the BIG BELL on your tool build menu, and that signals you are moving out to look for a new site to explore :)
was8bit 2020-05-01 06:07 (Edited)
0.73 = added -#'s to hazzards...
also leaving gold on the map when you leave is bad: you cannot earn any skill points, and should you also lose money you will actually lose 1 skill point
was8bit 2020-05-01 11:19
V0.8 , v0.81 ... created a changeable title/info box....
nousername010 2020-05-01 11:49
It's getting better and better :D Just a suggestion, how about obstacles that don't allow you to build tracks?
was8bit 2020-05-01 11:55 (Edited)
Thanks much :)
Well, currently there is lots of empty space....
My idea at higher levels is more stuff.. so at level 4 you will have: 5 mountains, 4 rivers, 4 lakes, 4 swamps, and one station... thats almost 20 things... odds are it will get messy just that...
was8bit 2020-05-01 11:57
Also remember the rails MUST connect to the correct sides... currently no check is made on the mountains, but my next version will add that check in... this limits the possibilities....
was8bit 2020-05-01 12:01
V0.82 causes train to crash on a mountain if tracks are not properly commected...
was8bit 2020-05-01 12:06 (Edited)
also, mountains act as blocks... some mountains are empty, at level 4 it will be possible to have 4 empty mountains, all acting as blocks....
I will have to test each level ....
was8bit 2020-05-02 05:17
Levels up now... currently testing all levels...
was8bit 2020-05-02 05:46
... game freezes at level 4....will fix..
was8bit 2020-05-03 05:46 (Edited)
.... fixed freeze...
.... also extensively tested all levels and tweaked out a good play balance...
was8bit 2020-05-03 05:49
LEVEL 1 is now an easy level, designed to teach how to play the game intuitively...
LEVEL 2-4 are tweaked for incremental challenges without spending lots of time without progress...
was8bit 2020-05-03 11:23 (Edited)
@nousername010... try playing game as it is now and let me know if extra obstacles at level 4 are needed? :)
EDIT: never mind, i am going to add one :)
nousername010 2020-05-03 11:51 (Edited)
@was8bit I don't think it needs any extra obstacles at the moment, maybe cause I'm out of ideas, haha.
Hmm... it keeps on making me start at rail baron. Is this intended for debugging purposes?
I wonder what the new obstacle will be...
was8bit 2020-05-03 12:17
.... ooops... yes, debugging... the more i test play, the more bugs i find ...
... i have added one extra obstacle... kinda more for fun really, a mountain that turned into a volvanoe ;)
was8bit 2020-05-03 12:17
V0.94 starts you at level 1 :)
was8bit 2020-05-04 04:59
Try to beat my high score "0178" :)
GAMELEGEND 2020-05-04 05:04
178 your on
GAMELEGEND 2020-05-04 05:20
IF Y=7 AND (C=8 OR C=64 OR C=66 OR C=68 OR C=70 OR C=72) THEN CC=99
Does it make a difference if you use the parentheses or not
was8bit 2020-05-04 06:19
Yes, the parenthesis are processed first and converted to TRUE or FALSE
was8bit 2020-05-04 06:22
Basically the statement is preventing your train depot (facing down) and any mountain from being randomly placed at the bottom, which would render any of these as out of play as track is required to be placed below these and would be impossible if these were placed at the very bottom ...
was8bit 2020-05-04 06:25 (Edited)
If you read the code, the WHILE,WEND continues looking for an avaiable spot, which is only char#2, so if for any other reason i dont want something placed at the chosen spot, setting CC=99 forces it to look for a new random spot...
GAMELEGEND 2020-05-04 06:43 (Edited)
High score 244
Lets say some one got 400 points some one who had better luck with the randomization could beat that score even with a worse strategy or have you found out a way to prevent this or reduce the chances of this happenin
was8bit 2020-05-04 06:59
Hey, great job :)
The game only focuses on creating a playable board... on level 1 it is super easy and quick as a way to teach new players how to play...
There are strategies... for example, you can quit a bad board to avoid losing money, it reduces your skill points but you also get to play more boards...
Like solitair or yatzee, its all mostly random chance with a bit of skill and risk thrown in... ;)
GAMELEGEND 2020-05-04 06:59 (Edited)
I see now
was8bit 2020-05-04 07:02
Thanks for testing it out... I am glad you beat my score... :)
was8bit 2020-05-04 07:08
My next idea i am testing out is this...
I am not sure if my idea is playable, so i wont post anything if it doesnt "pan out"..
GAMELEGEND 2020-05-04 07:17
I like these graphics
was8bit 2020-05-04 10:47
Thanks :) i borrowed them from this game
