Classic LowRes Coder App

LowRes Coder (without NX) was the predecessor of LowRes NX and was only available on iOS. It was removed by Apple from the App Store, because it was against their guide lines.

Website: https://lowres.inutilis.com

This topic can be used for general discussion about the classic app.

I reenabled user registration in LowRes Coder. So if you still have the app, but no account, you can create one now.

We could write a tutorial for people coming from lowres coder to nx. It will help clear up nx for people over on lowres coders.
The stuff that intimidates them from coming over (cells vs pixels is the main thing, I think)
Do you think this would help the community?

@Timo thanks a lot

@Timo how could such a helpful app as LowRes Coder be against Apples guidelines?

crosoft312 2021-06-04 19:40 (Edited)

Sp4cebar, apple has some wierd regulations. One of them is that no app itself could be an app store. And Lowres coder had an app store built into it. So, apple required that the store was removed or lowres coder was deleted. Timo went with the latter, because he felt like lowres coder would be hollow without the store. So, it was deleted.

SPACEBAR, Oh, I see. Timo already did it! Nevermind.

@crosoft312 So that's why the NX community is on the website

SP4CEBAR 2021-06-04 20:36

So Apple basically wants to have a monopoly on IOS games

crosoft312 2021-06-04 20:47

Yeah, apple is an interesting company...

Timo 2021-06-04 22:54

Well Apple wants to control what is available on iOS. So they are strict with apps that allow user to download other programs. Actually also NX can download programs, but as it’s from a website I guess it’s a grey zone.

Does apple do this to prevent malicious software?

Timo 2021-06-05 08:06

Yes, malware, but also inappropriate content for children etc.
