I didn't write the framebuffer (by LEE) .. I kinda understand it but I'm very sure I would not have been able to come up with it.... I just figured out how to use it :)

As I understand, this framebuffer system uses only 40 characters, so it should be possible to show real buttons for color and brush size. You could make a toolbar on the other BG and make it draggable, so the user can move it.
In any case, drawing is fun, but I think I wouldn't use this program for my games, because drawing freehand (without zoom) is not very precise.

Even with its border limitation, I like my first splash screen thing because it uses your character editor which is pixel precise and your editor is super easy to use :)
I think the framebuffer system is best used as a platform for math formula based drawing...
I doubled checked and you are correct in that it only prints to the screen characters 0 to 39.... a quick test shows that you can print and text things to the screen, although for animated things is severely interferes with the animation..
I "might" persue this further with visible tools (and a few better tools, like spray) if I think I can add a nice zoom edit feature... no promises though....
