How about:
Keeping the different octaves and notes, but player only guesses the note, and use A B buttons where player chooses between 2 choices... for each correct guess score a point per how many correct in a row and 3 misses in a row and it's game over ....
So, i miss=strike1, then correct=+1pnt, another correct =+2pnts, a miss=strike1, then a correct=+1pnt... a miss=strike1, another miss=strike2, a correct=+1pnt... etc...

Easy mode could be current sound, advanced mode could use 4 different random sounds... a sound with a little wavy tremble could make it more challenging :)

I mainly made this program not to be a challenge, but rather a test, and I learned that I'm still not very good at it
If you want to mod it, go for it, it's a simple program so that shouldn't be hard
