The numbers go up and down... what are the rules? Who wins?

was8bit 2019-02-10 17:39 (Edited)

It's like taking a deck of regular cards and playing "battle" ... the deck of cards is dealt to all players, each player then starts out with equal number of cards... you cannot choose a card to play, you simply draw a card off the top of your stack..

Each turn BOTH players draw the top card from their stack and play them in the table... HIGH card wins all the cards played on the table.. the won cards are placed at the bottom (under) your stack of cards....

If the same cards are played, it's a tie, play another round on the table to see who wins... winner wins all cards played...

In THIS game, I've added 2 extra cards....

BATTLE card: this card forces a tie, players have to play another round
LOSE card: this card ramps up the game's excitement... for EACH played LOSE card, BOTH players have to discard the top card from their stack... all LOSE cards are then forever out of play, lowering the number of cards players are fighting for...

In THIS game, you the Player are on the left, and the Computer is on the right... as in the real game of "BATTLE" there is no choice for players to make... just drawing/playing and grabbing cards as fast as you can..

The size of your "stack" is close to your "name"... the number of cards played on the table are close to the center

P 050/001 001/058 C

Means, you the player have a stack of 50 cards, with 1 card on the table
The computer has a stack of 58 cards with 1 card on the table

When someone has won the round, the cards are (one at a time) taken by the winner... the red "flash" show's the direction the cards are going to, and the numbers up top adjust to show the cards leaving the table and going into someone's stack..

the won cards are placed under your stack (the bottom) while played cards are drawn from the top of your stack... the order of the cards depend on how they are bring removed...

So say you play a 3, computer playes a BATTLE card... it's a tie

3 B

So you play a 8 and computer playes a 2.. cards on the table are..

8 2
3 B

You win, so the first card you get back is 8.... so the screen will now show..

....2
3 B

The you get back the 3

....2
....B

Then you get the computers played 2

.....B

The finally you get computers playes B card

Under your stack of existing cards, your won cards look like this...

(Your stack)
8
3
2
B

Which, eventually, will be played as time goes on and your stack of cards get down that far...

The game ends when any players stack reaches 0.... if then the other player has any cards in their stack, they win...

It's "possible" for both playes to lose, but very unlikely ...

I could emphasize things better... like the moment when a winner of a round is determined....

was8bit 2019-02-10 18:59

Ok, so with this version the red animations should help indicate different things happening...

DRAW CARDS: small slow bursts
WINNER OF ROUND: fast flash bursts
CARDS LOST: Flashing stats
Winner getting their won cards from table: motion of "fingers" pulling won cards to their side..

I think the number of cards played and to win shown in the center is really helpful :)

was8bit 2019-02-10 19:09

Removing the individual player cards on the table i think simplifies the view and makes it even easier to see what's going on,, :$

... and finally, a facelift... :)
