LEFT arrows move cursor in the field of view
RIGHT arrows shift background

RED above the cursor shows what the code reads
WHITE in the cursor shows what is written to the background

Left-A button decrements the value of the BG spot cursor is over
Right-A button increments the value of the BG spot cursor is over
