The #'s represent different currents in the river...
You have so much strength available to swim across the river... try to reach the other side before you run out of energy (as shown in the top left#)
If the 2 #'s are the same, you actually get a boost of energy
#'s wrap 0-9 and 9-0
Yellow #'s give you a bonus point
Red #'s are dangerous currents and take an extra energy point
You keep playing as long as you don't run out of energy...

So, 1 to 2 takes 1 energy
9 to 0 takes 1 energy
0 to 9 takes 1 energy
Wraping means 9 to 2 or 2 to 9 only takes 3 energy

Also, any remaining energy upon completing a crossing will be added to your next start, so take advantage of identical numbers in a row to accumulate extra energy ;)
