Sort order of programs

In my opinion the sort order of the programs should be by update date and not by initial post date. I was puzzled to learn that there were so many updates to infiltrator 2000.

I had some ideas about sort orders, but nothing really convinced me. Not sure yet.
In any case, if you "like" a program, you should get notifications about updates.

The present ordering creates an "historical" record.... the latest NEW thing is always seen first, and previous new things are back "in the past"

Allowing an update to bump a program to the top "could" tempt some people to abuse the feature for the sole purpose of staying on top....

Perhaps an ability to tag a program with "watch" or "favorite" or "follow" along with a tab with the same name.. so specific programs you want to check up on from day to day will appear in your special tab....

The icon for this special tab could be "an eye" or "a heart"

Yes, the good thing about "sort by creation date" that every program has the same chance to be seen.

I also thought about "sort by likes", but then the programs with most likes will be seen most and will get even more likes. New programs won't have a chance anymore.

I could maybe add a filter to see only your "liked" programs. I don't think we need another "follow" option.

“FOLLOW” as in original lowres is public for all to see whom you follow

“FAVORITE” is private, and only applies to individual posts, not to the poster ...

A filter for the “LIKED” may be redunent, as you already have mentioned if a game is “LIKED” then you’ll get notified of any updated... so if someone hasn’t “LIKED” a game, the filter wouldn’t work anyway... just LIKE a game and you’ll get notifications of updates and such...

Maybe the Work In Progress category could be sorted by update time, and other categories by first upload time.

Maybe a toggle button could be shown that toggles between creation time and Update time.

is it possible to do what original lowres did, like featured and discover

was8bit 2019-04-29 18:48

We already have a FEATURED....

And DISCOVER was everything that was posted by people you didn’t FOLLOW....since we don’t have FOLLOW, by default we automatically have a DISCOVER, it’s called RELEASED

oh... thanks for the info

was8bit 2019-04-30 08:10

Don't get me wrong, I like different ideas.... i sense these boards could use something, I just can't put my finger on what it is.....

was8bit 2019-05-07 12:45

How about this.... leave all sort orders as is... EXCEPT the one that lists all programs by the individual.....

So, for example, if I click on TODDL it shows me all of the programs TODDL made... then HERE is where the programs should be listed in order of last updated.... that way the most recently added or updated stuff TODDL has done will be at top :)

was8bit 2019-05-07 12:46

So, if I want to “follow” TODDL, I simply click the TODDL link, and I get to see what has been recently worked on :)

Currently I'm not working on this and I don't want to have lots of exceptions in how the different pages work.
I still think the current system should work: You see all the new projects and if you are interested you click "like" and get notifications about updates. Maybe this feature of "like" should be made clearer.

For the other case that you might miss a "release" of a great program first posted some time ago: I think I will sort the "Featured" category by the date when I actually feature something. Currently newly featured programs can still appear in the end of the list, if they were "work in progress" for a long time. So you could just check Featured from time to time to see if you missed something important. (Again the idea is from Pico-8, but the old LowRes Coder app did it very similar.)
