This is very interesting. Lets think about Zaxxon😋.

Very early isometric test. You can move up and down and you can fire😀.

Both are very cool :)
... I swear, I can hear that ball bouncing on the pavement!!
was8bit 2019-04-28 17:31
Actually I can move it while it's bouncing, which is kinda fun :)
You could make a basket ball type game where part of the game is getting the ball thru rings which are ABOVE the ground to score points, and avoid letting the ball fall into a hole in the ground which loses you a ball :D

Getting the ball to bounce off of walls might be tricky... but you wouldn't necessarily need walls...

Update: there’s a simple model of friction and elasticity. Holding the B button applies the brakes, by increasing friction.
There’s no collision detection with the edges of the platforms yet so you don’t fall when you go over the edge.

Sprites and shadows are now rendered in the right order to appear 3D

Update: you can complete the first (and only) level. There’s no title screen, scoring or level progression yet, so when you reach the end of the level you have to quit and restart the program.
The 3D effect goes a bit off when you fall slowly off the front of a platform. That’ll be fixed in a future version.

Update: implemented multiple levels during a flight from London to Berlin. Currently only introductory levels.
desbyc 2019-05-07 04:44
You are from Berlin?
dredds 2019-05-07 16:51
I’m from London but travel to Berlin every now and again
dredds 2019-05-07 16:54
Update: added a title screen, level selector & in-game instructions.

Thanks! I’m on a plane back and hope to have times and per-level best times done by the time I land :-)

Update: they are done. I wish Low Res NX has persistent storage now :-)
dredds 2019-05-08 16:39
- more floor surfaces
- animated nasties
No collision detection yet...
dredds 2019-05-08 23:54
Update: collision with enemies
dredds 2019-05-09 05:40
- spiked surfaces now burst the ball
- a particle system used to animate the ball bursting when it collides with enemies or spikes

- surfaces can have different hardness and friction. Soft surfaces can be used to slow the ball and stop it bouncing off platforms after jumping

Just saw the explosion effect, very cool!
Tinycloud778 2019-05-11 16:56
Wow really nice game
dredds 2019-05-12 13:43
Thanks. I’m now working on scrolling, for big levels.
