.. please test controlls and post opinions....

Currently left steers clockwise and right steers counterclockwise

.. i am thinking that arrows should cause a car to want to steer towards that direction...

Hey there was8bit! I've just been playing with this, and testing it out for you. I like it a lot, kind of makes me think of 'Dodgem Cars' (or 'Bumper Cars') at the fairgrounds! I noticed that you placed the Acceleration on the B-button, and the Brakes on the A-button! If I have ANY 'constructive criticism' to offer you here, it's that - personally I would have chosen them the other way around. (A-button for Acceleration, B-button for Brake). But that's just nitpicking on my part! I can't find any other faults with it, nor can I 'break' it, or make it 'fall over'. I might suggest that the 'Walls' be made more 'bouncy', like as if you were hitting a rubber-band, but that's about it! It's great! πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘ The next thing I suppose is the collision detection, and maybe some more 'enemy' cars! : )

Yea, i like your suggestion for the a/b switch :)

.. so, the steering seems OK ?

Roger Davis 2019-12-31 13:45

Yes was8bit, steering seems just fine to me! Especially if the 'Dodgem Car' feel was what you were after! : )

Roger Davis 2019-12-31 14:02

Was8bit, of course . . If that WASN'T what you wanted for this game, then go with your gut feeling on it, . . About the directional arrows being the key to a cars movement I mean! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Could I just point out to you finally was8bit, that the CURRENT CONTROLS would probably NOT go too well with a maze-type of game - they're a little too 'erratic' to be of much use in THAT situation! Unless you altered them to fit a Maze game, I don't see it working! However, if your game is to be more ARENA based (where you drive around circuits doing LAPS!), then I believe your current steering method would be great for that! Is the game to be set in an ARENA? πŸ€” Perhaps with a central 'structure', that has to be raced around? πŸ€” Or is it more like a 'snake' game? πŸ€”β“: )

I agree, without seeing the rest of the game it’s hard to say if the controls make sense.

Of course i have trouble finishing games .... but....

... here is my inspiration

Im not going to be able to duplicate a 3d player view game of course, but was thinking maybe a shadow of it...

.. so there would need to be some things to pick up, and some obstacles that can block your movement or could be used to hide behind...

was8bit 2019-12-31 17:48

This video reminded me how the accellerator works and how the brakes function in that game...

... let me rework both to better match ctr, and we shall see how that works :)

So the Battle part of CTR is your inspiration with this was8bit! I have actually played that game on PS One many years back. Super Mario Kart clone. Hmm . . Interesting! I thought maybe you were going more for a 'Super Sprint'/'Micro Machines' kind of game. Eager to see what you come up with on this one! : )

I really like the controls
