For text it's usually better to use the CELL command to write characters to the background. Sprites are made for objects which move freely on the screen.

I have always wanted to do this but never got around to it... may i use it (with credit to you of course) someday in a little learning game ?? :)

I can make katakana ok, but never could get the curves looking nice for hiragana... yours looks wonderful :D
