A great tragedy has happened. While I was working on an upcoming game that I've put 3 hours in, I fatfingered the select all button and deleted the entire project. It then promptly autosaved and now I'm back at ground 0.

I have had similar issues ...
... one tip that can help... occasionally make a duplicate and tweek the version number...
... this can limit your losses... it can also let you go back if you make mess of things...
