From what i remember, FEATURED section is a limited thing for only demonstrating NX's abilities and get visitors interested into checking NX out for themselves....
,.. it has nothing to do with the quality or such of your game...
... so, it is possible Timo feels there is already enough different games in it ...
... FEATURED games is designed to bring in new people, so IF you are interested in bringing is new people, the BEST thing you can do is tell everyone you know how much you enjoy lowres NX :)... if you chat or post elsewhere, tell them about your games here, or post links to your games here :D

Current users are going to see ALL of your games, as new games always get posted to top of the main game section... ;)

If a program really has good quality I will feature it for sure. This means good graphics, good sound, good presentation in general. I also like things to be complete. So if it's a game it should have a title screen, a game over screen etc.
On the other hand, there are programs which are technically very simple, but they have a fun and new idea. I will feature some of them, but there my decisions may appear sometimes quite random. I don't have real rules neither.
As was8bit already said: The idea is that new users/visitors can see some cool projects which motivate them to join the community. And for existing users which may not visit the site very often, it's a way to avoid missing the good stuff.
